Are you working on a new formulation?  Here\u2019s a few common \u2018gotchas\u2019 to watch out for: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Does your product really need a formula?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
    <\/strong> – There are several \u201cgeneral use<\/a>\u201d formulas for Vodka, Brandy & Whiskey\u00a0
    – Products adhering to a recognized Class & Type (e.g. Aquavit) do not require a formula submission\u00a0
    – Check the TTB Resource \u201c    Do I need a formula<\/a>?\u201d \u00a0

    <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Assuming you really need the formula, ensure you\u2019ve got all the required information:\u00a0
    <\/strong> – Total batch size, and a list of all the ingredients and their amounts\u00a0
    – Any used Flavor Extracts require a \u201cFID Sheet\u201d (Flavor Ingredient Database) from the flavor manufacturer to be attached to the formula\u00a0
    – Any off-the-shelf ingredients \u2013 like a flavored syrup \u2013 must have a specification sheet and\/or ingredient list attached to the formula\u00a0
    – You will be asked to enter the proof-at-distillation of your spirits as well as the finished product proof\/ABV%\u00a0
    – The TTB may require specification sheets for finished alcohol products that you use in a formula\u00a0
    <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Describe your Method of Manufacture.\u00a0 TTB is looking for a particular level of detail \u2013 not too much, and not too little.\u00a0
      <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Class & Type.\u00a0 Selecting the wrong Class and\/or Type for your distilled spirits formula can lead to delays and mistaken disapprovals.\u00a0 TTB Specialists can and will override your chosen Class & Type, and you may not like the results.\u00a0 Get it right the first time to save yourself time and hassle.\u00a0<\/strong>
        <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        1. Limited Ingredients.\u00a0 If you are using one of these ingredients on TTB\u2019s list<\/a>, you must prepare and submit a worksheet to demonstrate that the levels in your finished product are in spec.\u00a0
          <\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
