We recently checked in with Jeremy DeWitt, Assistant Distillery Manager at 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Co., about how things have been going with Whiskey Systems since the beginning, and how they have been since they switched back to Whiskey Systems after a brief hiatus.
FIVE x 5: Tell us more about your journey into the distilling business. What are your fan favorite products?Jeremy: We’re all very passionate about spirits. Most of us come from a restaurant hospitality background with a lot of years behind different bars around town, and in front of quite a few of them as well. Someone in our area was going to start a distillery soon and we thought it might as well be us! Here we are 8 years later.
Bourbon and Rye are our two most popular spirits. Bourbon comes in at 75% corn, a medium sweetness, and subtle hints of vanilla, oak and honey. Our rye has a mash bill of 65% rye, notes of dark fruit up front, full-bodied with hints of toffee and caramel throughout, and a pleasant cinnamon finish.
Fx5: What were your goals when considering implementing a distillery management software?
Jeremy: We needed something to simplify the TTB reporting process and to assist with inventory. We were flying blind in the beginning and needed a centralized resource to aid us in setting up and recording everything.
Fx5: What were the problems you were facing before you decided to switch back to Whiskey Systems as your distillery management and reporting software solution?
Jeremy: We switched back to Whiskey Systems in an effort to simplify the distillery management process. We spend enough time with cooks, distillations, bottling, etc. We don’t want to spend unnecessary time on record keeping, as well.
Fx5: What features/functionality are non-negotiable for you in distillery management and reporting software?
Jeremy: Ease of use, reliable and responsive customer support, simple TTB reporting.
Fx5: Are there any surprising features/functionality of the Whiskey Systems system that you couldn’t do without?
Jeremy: Not necessarily surprising but batching and proofing without a pallet scale using volume is huge.
Fx5: How have things improved since you took on Whiskey Systems?
Jeremy: We’ve been seeing over 15% growth year over year; our yields have improved.
Fx5: How are things going these days, and where do you see your distillery going in the future? Do you think that Whiskey Systems is going to help with those goals?
Jeremy: We’d like to continue our growth and introduce new products we’ve been experimenting with. As we get bigger, we hope Whiskey Systems will continue to keep the back-end records keeping manageable so we can continue to focus on what is important.
