Starting this week, Lot Tracking is available to every distillery running Dx5. Reach out to Customer Success and we’ll get it switched on for you.
Here’s the simple version: every lot of raw material you receive, every batch you bottle, and every case you ship now keeps its own identity — from the day it arrives to the day it leaves your warehouse.
Know what a batch costs — not just an average

Most distilleries track cost as one average number across all their inventory. It’s simple, and for a lot of businesses, it’s enough. As you grow, some need something more specific.
Lot Tracking gives every lot a single identity from receiving to bottling, so the cost of each lot is exact — and its full history is always there, automatically. That precision carries through to your batches too: you know exactly what a batch cost you, not just an average. You see that cost before you commit to it, too: when you run a recipe, Dx5 shows you exactly which materials it’s about to use and what they cost, before anything gets consumed. No digging through old purchase orders afterward to figure out what a batch really cost you.
lot tracking stays accurate on its own
Move inventory between warehouses, and it keeps its identity, cost, and quantity right along with it. Adjust a quantity, and the record adjusts with it. Once a lot is fully used up, it closes itself out. No manual bookkeeping required on your end.
Built for audits, without the extra work
Every one of those events — receiving, moving, adjusting, using, shipping — is on the record automatically. So when it’s time for an audit or a certification review, the documentation is already there. If you’re a certified organic producer, this matters even more: lot-level records are part of what your certification requires, and now you have them without extra spreadsheets. Your cost of goods sold reporting carries the same lot-level detail, so your numbers hold up without extra manual cross-checking on your end.

Turning Lot tracking on doesn’t mean starting over
This is the part people worry about most, so we’ll say it plainly: Lot Tracking is opt-in. If you don’t turn it on, nothing about how you work today changes. If you do, whatever inventory you have on hand simply becomes your starting point, and everything moves forward from there. You don’t need to re-enter anything, rebuild your recipes, or change how your formulas, supplies, or batch types are set up. Flip it on, and you’re tracking.
If you’re migrating to Dx5 from Whiskey Systems, there’s a bit more setup involved to get you to that same starting point — but we handle that for you too.
It works the way you already work
Lot Tracking lives right inside the screens you already use in Dx5, including receiving a purchase order, running a recipe, bottling a batch, fulfilling an order. The only difference is that now, every step carries its lot information along with it, so you always know where things stand.
We’re not stopping here
This is the first step. We’re already working on giving you more control over which lots you choose in more places, along with deeper reporting for certification needs. More on that soon.
